Plate successes at Inter-League
The weekends NIPA Inter-League action saw North Down & Ards sides return from Larne with 2 trophies, with both the B1 side on Saturday, and the A side on Sunday, return with the Plate shields from their respective competitions. The B1 side, in particluar, can feel a little aggrieved, missing out for a third straight year on a place in the Semi-Final of the main event by a single frame. They gave eventual winners Carrick B1 their hardest test of the day, losing their final group game to Derek Whiteside's team in a play-off after the match ended 11-11. Carrick went on to defeat the North Down B2 side in the semis before defeating hosts Larne B1 in the Final. The North Down B1s defeated both Ballyclare B1 and B2 sides 6-1 in the Quarter then Semi-Finals before a close 6-4 victory over Carrick B2 in the Final.
The A side were in a difficult group with both eventual finalists Omagh and Coleraine. After dropping out of the main event, they defeated Town & Country and then Ballyclare 6-1 in the Quarter and Semi-Finals before an even closer Final victory 6-5 against Carrick.
